Thank you for your interest in Synthemum's Poodles!
If you are ready to inquire about taking home one of our available puppies, or being put on our waiting list for an upcoming litter, please take a look at the following questions. When we initially talk, I will be bringing up these questions, so please make sure to read them before hand. If I missed anything, or you want clarification on anything, feel free to bring up any questions yourself.
I just want to get to know you, and am happy to let you know about me as well!

1. Are you 18 years or older? If not, do you have expressed permission to bring a dog into your home? Your legal guardian will need to accompany you to meet the pups/parents, and to take your puppy home. They will also need to be prepared to sign our contract.
2. Do you own the home you are living in? If not, does your housing authority allow dogs, even ones that can weigh 45-50 lbs, possibly more, when full grown?
Are you able to provide written proof of this allowance?
3. Have you or your family ever owned a dog before? Large breed?
4. Have you ever owned a Standard Poodle before? If not, have you done your research on the breed?
5. Are you prepared to provide for the grooming requirements of this breed? And do you have a groomer chosen? If you plan to groom at home, do you have the proper tools?
6. Are you prepared for the life-long cost of owning a dog? Grooming, medical, food, etc?
7. Do children live in your household? If so, have they been properly trained on how to behave with dogs?
8. What about other dogs? Are they dog friendly? And little critters? Poodles usually have a prey drive, so it will be important to socialize them early with any small animals, including cats.
9. Have you ever raised a puppy? Are you prepared for the demanding, though fulfilling, work it takes to properly raise one?
10. Do you have a pre-existing vet you prefer to use, and if not, are you able to choose one before your puppy goes home?
11. Will your new family member be mostly inside? Standard Poodles share a great bond with their humans, and must be part of the family. Being left outside, whether kenneled, tied, or free, will not do for this breed!
12. What type of backyard do you have? Is it fenced? Standard Poodles require at least moderate exercise, and a large yard is preferable, but not required as long as plenty of walks are given. Poodles do have a prey drive, and as with most dogs, love to explore! They will need a safe, enclosed area to roam safely without escaping the property! A loose dog is not only dangerous, but it’s also illegal!
13. Lastly, are there any future events that you can foresee that would make owning a puppy or adult dog difficult? This could include things like a planned vacation, the birth of a child, predicted job or income troubles, the death or retirement of the main owner, or even something as simple as your puppy not learning to potty train as quickly as hoped.
This is a new family member, through the good and bad times. Make sure you make proper arrangements for the future, so you can keep this pup for the rest of its life!
